Driving Lessons

You can arrange your lesson at a time that suits you – generally between 9am – 6pm Monday – Friday, and 9am – 1pm on Saturdays. You can be picked up from home, work, school or any other local place you choose.

If it’s your first lesson and you haven’t driven before, you’ll start off in an area where you’ll be able to begin driving safely. If you already have some experience, your first lesson will be used to assess what you already know.

After that, the lessons will be planned for you personally, so that each time you’ll be adding to the skills that you already have. You could be working on left and right turns, pedestrian crossings, roundabouts, junctions, parking …. At the beginning of each lesson I’ll show you the theory, using diagrams, and then you’ll have the chance to practise.

Remember, you’ll need your provisional license before you can have your first lesson, so make sure you apply in good time (it can take around 3 weeks to arrive). Click HERE to find out about getting your provisional license.

Keeping COVID-safe

We are following DVSA guidelines to minimise the risk from COVID-19. Precautions include the following:

  • Any surfaces which pupils or the instructor may touch are cleaned thoroughly between lessons
  • Both instructor and pupil will wear a mask
  • Before your lesson you will be asked to declare that you are free of symptoms
  • We will take your temperature before each lesson
  • You should wash your hands before the lesson; sanitiser is available in the car
  • The windows will be open during the lesson, so you should dress appropriately

Frequently Asked Questions

You probably have lots of questions about learning to drive. Here are some of the most common.

How do I get started?

You need to be at least 17 years old, and to have received your provisional licence. You'll need to bring both parts of the licence to your first lesson. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, be sure to bring them too.
You can apply for a provisional licence at gov.uk

Can I start taking lessons before I've passed my theory test?

Yes. In fact, it's a good idea, because experience of driving on the roads will help you to pass the theory test. You'll have to pass the theory test before you can take the practical test. You can find information here on applying for the theory test.

How long will it take to pass my test?

It's hard to say - you may learn quicker than average or it might take a bit longer. The Driving Standards Agency research indicates that "those who pass their driving test have had, on average, about 45 hours of professional training combined with 22 hours of private practice."

What car will I learn in?

You'll be driving a manual Kia Rio. The seat and steering wheel are fully adjustable, so you will have an ideal driving position. To keep you cool in summer, the car has air conditioning, and for your safety it is fitted with dual controls.

Do you offer Intensive Courses?

Intensive Courses are ideal for people wanting to learn in a short period of time. There are courses for those with no previous driving experience and also for those who have already taken some lessons.

If you are interested in learning intensively, contact me to arrange a short assessment drive to ensure you are on the right course.

Can I take my test in your car without taking lessons with PassWright?

This is possible, as long as you first take an assessment lesson with me so that I can check that you are ready for the test.

Do you offer a Pass Plus course?

Yes. The course takes at least 6 hours and is for qualified drivers to improve their skills and drive more safely. It may save you money on your car insurance. You can find more information here about Pass Plus.
